A Visit From A Snail

Sometimes when you live in an apartment, you have to take what you can get when it comes to nature study. We don't have any parks within walking distance (other than our complex playground) so it isn't often we find fun new things to observe.

Aidan found this guy on the fence between our apartment complex and the road.

We brought it inside and we sketched it and took lots of photographs, and then let him back outside. Aidan returned him to the fence where we could actually watch him climbing up and around from our window.

We put it on a plastic lid initially thinking he might stay put, but no such luck. Watching him climb down was pretty cool.

There was a little matter of, "Look Mom, it's pooping!"

Don't worry, there was clorox involved in the reclaiming of our table.

Aidan tells that he has learned the following things about snails:

They are cold and slimy but their shells are hard. They have 4 tentacles, two on top and two on bottom. Their poop smells yucky.

That's so cool! I never remember snails/slugs being around when I was a kid but I've seen more now that Andrew is so interested in animals. What fun!!

The don't worry there was clorox involved totally cracked me up. I was thinking of you today. I love the new blog layout I have the itch to change things on mine but it is sooo low on my list of things to do.
