As readers of this blog know, I am not big on purchasing curriculum. Materials, yes. Curriculum, not so much. I do, however, want my kids to have exposure to a wide range of subjects, such as art and music. You can read more about my past art projects and activities here. Today, however, I am going to talk about music.
Until recently, my beautiful piano was being used as an overpriced television stand. A few weeks ago, however, Tim was able to mount it on the wall above. I have a love-hate relationship with our television and I didn't think mounting it could make that much difference, but oh it did! I can look at my piano and see music instead of a big black box.
I knew right away that I would be adding some music materials for the kids to the top of the piano. I added two baskets- one for rhythm instruments (only rhythm sticks for now- I will add more as we go) and one for music theory card work. I sketched out in my mind 4 sets of cardwork to teach basic rhythm and I am still playing with how to do notation. I also brought my guitar back out (which I really don't play very well but fortunately the kids don't know the difference or at least they are nice about it if they do).
I am very excited about these new additions to our homeschooling materials.
So what are you up to these days? We would love to take a peek into your homeschooling home! Don't forget to link back here and also to add your post to MckLinky so we can come visit you!
