I posted earlier this month on a few of our early name writing activities and my thoughts on

writing activity I found on Pinterest, I had Kylee use our chalkboard for some additional writing practice this week and she really liked it. I wrote a shape, line, or word in chalk and then she used a paint brush dipped in water to trace over the lines. We started with basic writing strokes and then switched to writing letters. After she water erased her name several times, she really wanted to write other words too so we practiced lots of other family names.
Kylee is doing really well with all of the name writing work and practice she is doing. I suspect one day soon she will pick up a pencil, crayon, or maker and spontaneously write her name on paper.
The teacher in me has to repeatedly tell the mom in me to be patient and not rush her!
I love this point when my littles one are just on the cusp of mastering something new.

Heidi, along the same lines have you had any experience with left handed writers? (I am one and Kate we think will be,too. Just trying to balance the mother and the teacher in me,too! ;-)

Angie the Mother-Teacher thing is tough, isn't it??!!
We use Handwriting Without Tears once we start putting letters on lines and moving from mainly moveable alphabet to mainly pencil-paper writing. My sister in law also used Handwriting Without Tears for her lefty and it seemed like she was happy with it! They do have some great visual information (even in just the student activity books) about positioning of paper and pencil for a left handed writer

I think my 2 year old would love this for prewriting - tracing just lines like in your first photo. And we have the easel. Thanks for reminding me of this.
