Aidan's oral report on France.
This assignment was part of a 1 month study of the continent of Europe. After two weeks of reading living books and doing basic map work, I assigned Aidan to choose one country to research farther. He filled out an information sheet (country, capital, population, flag, industry, mountains/rivers, etc) using books we had checked out from the library and then made a poster. The "This is..." comments involved a lot of pointing. Words are his, spelling & punctuation are mine. I haven't done it often, but I love writing these narrations down!
France has Paris as the capital city. There are 731,000 (Mom's note: actually 731,000,000) people so there are a lot of people in that country. This is Europe. This is France. This is the flag. They use trains for transportation.
This is the Eiffel tower. You can find it in Paris. It used to be the tallest structure in the world, but now there are buildings that are taller.
The Seine is a very important river in the history of France. Grapes are also very important in France. There are mountains by the borders. These are the Alps and the Pyrenees. But, I didn't add the Pyreneenees because that word is too long for me to write. The wine grapes are very popular.
This poster is called France.
This was followed by a question and answer session in which Caleb told us everything that happened in a Magic Treehouse book involving the Eiffel tower and Aidan got really dramatic and started reteaching us the poster again with loud exclamations and bold hand movements.

Oh and the 731,000,000 isn't really the population either, but its what he had written on his poster. I'm pretty sure that is actually the population of all of Europe :)
